Zubeen Garg death case update
Zubeen passed away on September 19, 2025, while on a day out on a yacht in Singapore. The singer was abroad as a cultural brand ambassador for the North East India Festival. According to investigators, the outing was organised by members of the Assam Association Singapore ahead of the festival, during which Garg allegedly drowned while swimming. The SIT is probing a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) case registered under charges of ‘criminal conspiracy’, ‘culpable homicide not amounting to murder’, and ‘death by negligence’. Murder charges were later added during the course of the investigation.
Garima Garg welcomes the chargesheet
Singer’s wife Garima Garg welcomed the filing of the chargesheet and said the probe had progressed in line with the family’s expectations. The probe proceeded on expected lines, for which we are very grateful to the investigating agency.”Expressing faith in the judicial system, she added, “Now everything depends on the judicial process, which we hope will move smoothly. We want the guilty to be punished accordingly.”
Murder charges filed against 4

These individuals include Garg’s secretary Siddhartha Sharma, two of the singer’s band members – Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amritprava Mahanta. North East India Festival chief organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta was also named, considering that he was the principal organiser of the festival for which the singer had travelled to Singapore and died under what police have described as ‘suspicious circumstances’.In addition, Nandeswar Bora and Prabin Baishya, who were Garg’s personal security officers, have been also been charged with ‘criminal conspiracy’ and ‘criminal breach of trust’. Singapore police conducting parallel investigations
Meanwhile, the Singapore Police are continuing their own parallel investigation even though their preliminary report suggested that the cause of death was ‘accidental drowning’. Authorities there had earlier stated that their preliminary findings did not indicate foul play. The case will now proceed through the judicial process in India as the court examines the SIT’s findings.
