Yunus: Won’t tolerate any violence disrupting polls

DHAKA: Violence in an election environment is completely unacceptable, Bangladesh chief adviser Muhammad Yunus said, expressing concern over an independent candidate being shot at and seriously injured on Friday — the first instance pre-poll violence after the February 12 parliamentary election schedule was announced on Thursday.Dhaka-8 constituency candidate Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancho — a party formed after the 2024 “July uprising” that led to Hasina’s ouster — was shot at by unidentified assailants in Dhaka. “No form of violence intended to disrupt the election will be tolerated. The incident is a worrying development for the country’s political landscape,” he said.
