VinFast begins India journey with first EV plant: Production capacity & more details

Vietnamese electric vehicle maker, VinFast, has officially marked its entry into India by setting up its first manufacturing facility in the country. The facility is located in Tamil Nadu and spans 400 acres. This is VinFast’s third operational plant globally and the first one outside Vietnam. The Tamil Nadu plant will initially focus on assembling the VF 6 and VF 7 electric SUVs, with a starting production capacity of 50,000 units per year. This can be ramped up to 150,000 units annually, depending on market demand.

The facility includes dedicated sections like a Body Shop, Paint Shop, Assembly Shop, a Quality Control Centre, and a logistics hub. At full scale, the plant is expected to generate 3,000 to 3,500 direct jobs, in addition to creating indirect opportunities through its local supplier ecosystem.

Besides selling EVs in India, the company plans to work closely with Indian suppliers to localize the supply chain, transfer technology, and upskill the workforce. It has also tied up with companies like RoadGrid, myTVS, and Global Assure for digital services and after-sales support. In a push toward sustainability, VinFast has partnered with BatX Energies to ensure battery recovery and reuse.The VinFast VF 7 will be the first model to hit the market. This five-seater SUV carries a crossover-style design and features the brand’s signature V-shaped LED lighting. It is likely to be available in two versions – Eco and Plus. Globally, the Eco variant uses a single motor setup that sends 204 hp to the front wheels, while the Plus version gets dual motors, making 354 hp with all-wheel drive. Both versions are equipped with a 75.3kWh battery, delivering a claimed range of up to 450 km for the Eco and 431 km for the Plus.
