SSB recruitment 2026: The Sashastra Seema Bal has issued a short notification announcing 1060 vacancies for Constable and Head Constable posts. The notification appeared in the Employment Newspaper, outlining recruitment across multiple trades under the Central Armed Police Forces.According to the announcement, the detailed notification will be released on the official website, ssb.gov.in. Vacancy distribution across trades and postsOut of the total vacancies, 827 posts are for Constable roles, while 233 are for Head Constable positions. Constable vacancies span trades such as Driver, Veterinary, Gardener, Washerman, Tailor, Barber, Carpenter and others. The Driver category alone accounts for 553 posts, restricted to male candidates.The Constable vacancies are categorised across UR, EWS, OBC, SC and ST groups, with a total distribution of 383 UR, 64 EWS, 191 OBC, 128 SC and 61 ST posts.For Head Constables, the recruitment includes trades such as Communication, Electrician, Steward and Veterinary. Communication posts form the majority with 197 vacancies, followed by Electrician with 29 positions. Eligibility criteria and application processCandidates applying for Head Constable posts must possess a 10+2 qualification, while Constable applicants are required to have passed Class 10. Age limits vary by role, generally ranging between 18 and 27 years depending on the trade.Specific technical qualifications are required for certain posts. For instance, Communication roles require a science background along with relevant diplomas, while Electrician posts require ITI certification. Driver applicants must hold a valid Heavy Motor Vehicle licence.The application fee is set at Rs. 100 for General, OBC and EWS candidates. SC, ST, Ex-Servicemen and female candidates are exempted from paying the fee. Payments can be made through online modes including debit card, credit card, net banking and UPI.Selection stages and recruitment processThe selection process consists of multiple stages, beginning with Physical Efficiency Test and Physical Standard Test. Candidates who qualify proceed to a written examination followed by skill or typing tests where applicable.Document verification and a detailed medical examination form the final stages of the recruitment process. Typing speed requirements apply to certain posts, with a benchmark of 35 WPM in English or 30 WPM in Hindi.
