Ranveer Singh and Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar has scripted a historic chapter at the North American box office, officially dethroning Prabhas’s Baahubali 2 to register the highest ever second Friday collection for an Indian film in the territory. According to early evening trends, Dhurandhar has crossed the USD 830,000 mark till early evening on its second Friday, edging past Baahubali 2’s long-standing benchmark of USD 828,000 and rewriting record books nearly eight years after SS Rajamouli’s epic set the gold standard.
The significance of this achievement cannot be overstated, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion was not just a blockbuster; it was a cultural phenomenon that expanded the ceiling for Indian cinema overseas, especially in North America. Its second Friday surge in 2017 symbolised extraordinary repeat value and word-of-mouth at a time when the market was far less saturated. Baahubali 2 still remains the highest grossing Indian film in the circuit with a lifetime collection of USD 22 million.
Dhurandhar’s North American run is nothing short of dream run, it opened to USD 522K on Friday and spiked to USD 852 K on Saturday and Sunday. On Monday it witnessed a small dip to collect USD 489K but on Tuesday it gained traction again to collect USD 597K. On Wednesday it earned USD 581 K and on Thursday it jumped to USD 528 K and with taking the first week collection stood at USD 4.4 million. And with 2nd Friday numbers coming in at USD 830K till early evening – it’s total collection is now beyond USD 5 million. The circuit has always backed Ranveer Singh as his last release Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani minted over USD 10 million and Padmaavat had earned more than USD 12 million.Dhurandhar also features Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Sanjay, Dutt, Sara Arjun, Rakesh Bedi and Gaurav Gera in leading roles.
