Film critic John Campea is a '100% sure' James Gunn will quit DC following the Paramount-WBD merger
Film critic John Campea predicts James Gunn will exit DC Studios once Paramount completes its takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery. He argues Gunn’s ideological differences with the likely new owners could drive an early departure from his contract, paving the way for a return to Marvel, potentially with Kevin Feige groomed as his successor.

Is James Gunn, the current co-chairman and co-CEO of DC studios, quitting the position to join hands with Marvel? This is something that Youtuber and film critic John Campea believes. Recently, Campea publicly predicted that James Gunn won’t stick around once Paramount takes control of Warner Bros. Discovery, which Paramount has said is expected to close later this year. Campea has made it clear that he has not spoken with Gunn and it’s something based on his analysis and opinion.

Film critic John Campea’s prediction

In a video posted by Campea on February 28 on his Youtube channel , the film critic said he’s “100% sure” Gunn will go to WBD CEO David Zaslav and ask to be let go from his contract before the end of the year. He gives the reason as: “Gunn “isn’t working for those guys,” and that Zaslav will let him exit.” Campea then claims Gunn ends up back at Marvel. “And then I think he’s going to end up back at Marvel, and he will become Kevin Feige’s heir apparent to take over Marvel after Kevin Feige finally goes. That’s what I think is going to happen. That’s the road map that I see happening here,” said the Youtuber.

John Campea’s core argument

His core argument revolved around Gunn vs the Ellisons. Campea paints the Ellisons as Trump-aligned, which was previously reported by Variety and many other trade sites. That’s why Campea says he can’t picture Gunn staying once Paramount is effectively in charge.

Why is moving to Marvel is in speculation?

Campea’s Marvel angle is pure speculation, but the logic is obvious: Gunn’s biggest mainstream wins were at Marvel with the three Guardians of the Galaxy movies and producing Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame.Meanwhile, Gunn is due to start filming soon on his follow-up to ‘Superman’ with ‘Man of Tomorrow.’ Gunn recently teased that he’s in pre-production. ‘Man of Tomorrow’ is set to release July 9, 2027.
