A major fundraising drive in Dubai has generated more than AED 1.14 billion in support of the Edge of Life campaign, a global humanitarian initiative launched during Ramadan by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The campaign aims to raise at least AED 1 billion to help rescue five million children from hunger worldwide, bringing together international philanthropic organisations, business leaders and individual donors.The total amount raised includes over AED 1.049 billion in pledges and contributions, alongside AED 91.405 million generated through the Most Noble Number charity auction, which was held in Dubai. The auction and pledges were announced during a Suhoor event organised by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) at the Armani Dubai Hotel in Burj Khalifa.
Auction of special numbers raises over AED 91 million
The charity auction featured 29 exclusive vehicle plate numbers and premium mobile numbers, attracting strong bidding from participants. The auction alone raised AED 91.405 million, with proceeds directed towards the Edge of Life campaign.The special numbers included:
- 9 special RTA vehicle plate numbers
- 10 premium numbers from e& UAE
- 10 premium numbers from du
The breakdown of the auction proceeds showed:
- AED 81.5 million raised from RTA plate numbers
- AED 1.905 million raised from e& premium mobile numbers
- AED 8 million raised from du premium mobile numbers
The highest winning bid was AED 37 million for plate number DD 6, followed by several other high-value plates:
- DD 16 – AED 9 million
- DD 99 – AED 8.9 million
- DD 25 – AED 6.4 million
- DD 30 – AED 6.1 million
- DD 100 – AED 5.1 million
- DD 999 – AED 5.1 million
- DD 7000 – AED 2 million
- DD 22222 – AED 1.9 million
Premium mobile numbers also attracted notable bids. For e& UAE numbers, the total reached AED 1.905 million, with the highest bid of AED 500,000 for number 0500000012, followed by AED 260,000 for 0500000013, AED 240,000 for 0500000023, and AED 200,000 for 0500000024. Other numbers ranged between AED 45,000 and AED 160,000.For du numbers, the auction raised AED 8 million, led by AED 4.5 million for number 0580000000. Other winning bids included AED 700,000 for number 0580000008, AED 550,000 for 0580000001, and multiple numbers selling between AED 250,000 and AED 360,000.

Global philanthropic pledges exceed AED 1 billion
During the Suhoor event, major international philanthropic organisations announced pledges worth $276.36 million (AED 1.014 billion) to support the campaign’s mission of combating childhood hunger and malnutrition.Key pledges included:

- $50 million (AED 184 million) – Gates Foundation
- $50 million (AED 184 million) – EdelGive Foundation
- $50 million (AED 184 million) – Piramal Foundation
- $20 million (AED 73 million) – Tata Trusts Foundation
- $5 million (AED 18 million) – Aliko Dangote Foundation
- $1.36 million (AED 5 million) – Dalio Philanthropies
In addition, individual donors contributed AED 35.816 million during the event.Among the notable individual contributions:

The Suhoor gathering brought together philanthropic and business leaders and was organised by MBRGI in collaboration with Emirates Auction, with support from the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), e& UAE, and du. The event was also held in collaboration with Badr Jafar, who serves as the Special Envoy of the UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs for Business and Philanthropy.
Global effort to combat childhood hunger
The Edge of Life campaign is being implemented in partnership with leading humanitarian organisations including UNICEF, Save the Children, the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), and Action Against Hunger. The initiative aims to deliver nutrition support and protect vulnerable children from the devastating impacts of hunger and food shortages.Mohammad Al Gergawi, Secretary General of MBRGI, said the campaign has sparked a powerful global response since its launch by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum during Ramadan.
