NMC invites government medical college faculty to join assessor pool for inspections: Check eligibility and key details here

The National Medical Commission (NMC), through its Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB), has initiated the process for the creation of an Assessor Pool to conduct inspections of medical colleges across India. The move is linked to upcoming inspections for the Academic Year 2026-27 and other assessments carried out under the National Medical Commission Act, 2019.The development follows a public notice issued by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board dated December 22, 2025, and a subsequent communication dated December 26, 2025, addressed to all Government Medical Colleges and Institutions in India.

Purpose of the assessor pool

According to the notice, the Medical Assessment and Rating Board conducts inspections of medical colleges in accordance with its regulations. For inspections related to undergraduate and postgraduate applications for the Academic Year 2026-27, faculty members from Government Medical Colleges will be engaged as assessors. The same pool may also be used for additional inspections not limited to undergraduate and postgraduate applications.The notice further states that the assessor pool may also be used as experts for evaluation and scrutiny of documents and reports related to medical colleges.

Eligibility criteria for faculty

Faculty members who are eligible to serve as postgraduate guides are eligible to apply. Eligibility is to be determined as per:

  • Section 5 of Teachers Eligibility Qualifications, 2022
  • Sections 16 and 17 of the Medical Institutions (Qualifications of Faculty) Regulations, 2025

Role of Deans and Principals

Deans and Principals of all Government Medical Colleges have been directed to share the communication and the Google Form link with all eligible faculty members. The notice specifies that this must be done through personal circulation and by displaying the information on college notice boards.

Inspection process and duty status

The Medical Assessment and Rating Board has informed that inspections may include surprise visits. Faculty members selected from the assessor pool will be engaged for these inspections from time to time. The travel period and the day of inspection will be treated as on duty. Travel, lodging expenses, and remuneration will be borne by the National Medical Commission.

Submission of willingness

Eligible faculty members are required to submit their willingness through the Google Form shared in the notice. The deadline for submission is within 15 days from the date of issue of the notice dated December 22, 2025.Read the official notice here.
