Actor Vipin Sharma, famed for his impactful performance in ‘Taare Zameen Par’, has sparked a thought-provoking discussion on method acting in India. He posits that revered figures like Aamir Khan and Ranveer Singh, despite their talent, don’t fully embrace the painstaking method actors utilize in the West.

Vipin Sharma, who is popularly known for playing Darsheel Safary’s character, Ishaan Awasthi’s, father in Aamir Khan‘s ‘Taare Zameen Par’. He recently featured in Kapil Sharma’s ‘Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2’. The actor expressed that India doesn’t have any method actors. He shared that even Aamir Khan and Ranveer Singh cannot be called method actors. Let’s take a look at what he said.

In an interview with SCREEN, Vipin Sharma talked about the difference between Meisner’s technique and what he learned at the National School of Drama. He shared, “One major difference is there’s a lot of emphasis on the actor’s internal process.”

During the conversation, he went on to add, “To be honest, there’s not even a method actor in India.” He added that there are actors who can do that; however, he said, “We don’t have the process. It’s a completely different ballgame. It takes time. You can’t do method acting in a month. A lot of actors in the West go through that process for a year.”

When Vipin Sharma was asked about the perception that Aamir Khan is a method actor, he said, “It’s a very wrongly used word. Everybody has a method. So that doesn’t make everyone a method actor.” He acknowledged the fact that the ‘Dhoom 3’ star has a great method of creating a character. Vipin Sharma further shared that finding a ground, which according to him Aamir did in ‘Lagaan’, is different. and it cannot be called a “method.

In the same interview, Vipin Sharma was asked about Ranveer Singh’s statement after playing Allauddin Khilji in ‘Padmaavat. For those unaware, Singh has shared that he couldn’t escape the character even after the shoot was over. Sharma was questioned if this can be called as method acting.To this, Vipin Sharma shared that there was a Hollywood actor (he couldn’t remember his name) who played the role of an alcoholic musician in a movie. The Bollywood actor said, “He went into those footsteps and had to go to rehab after the shoot. Compare this to that. So, there’s a misconception.”He said, “So, that’s the impact of a character. It’s more of that than method acting.”
