Yami Gautam slams extortion culture as ‘paid hype’ in Bollywood ahead of Aditya Dhar's 'Dhurandhar' release; Hrithik Roshan lends his support: 'Only true opinions have the potential'

Yami Gautam has sparked a powerful conversation inside Bollywood with a hard-hitting public statement about what she calls a disturbing new culture in the industry. In a long note, she expressed, “There is something iv been wanting to express since really long, I feel today is that day & I must.” She went on to condemn the so-called trend of paying certain individuals and platforms to create forced hype for films or to avoid fabricated negativity. Yami added, “This so called trend of giving money, in the disguise of marketing a film, to ensure good ‘hype’ for a film is created or else ‘they’ will continuously write negative things… feels nothing but kind of extortion.”Calling this practice a “plague,” she warned that it could damage the future of Indian cinema if normalised further. She urged producers, directors and actors to stand together and put an end to such manipulation before it becomes irreversible.

Hrithik Roshan responded to Yami’s post with deep appreciation and a critical reflection on how artificially controlled hype affects the integrity of journalism and cinema. He wrote, “More than anything , the golden thing that gets lost and leaves them and all of us impoverished is the journalists true voice… Only true opinions have the potential where feedback helps us evolve.” Hrithik stressed that manufactured responses take away a journalist’s freedom and deprive filmmakers of genuine feedback that helps them grow. He highlighted that without honesty, nobody filmmakers or journalists can experience real fulfilment in their work.

Larger call for change In Bollywood

Yami further said she is speaking both as a film fraternity member and as the wife of a filmmaker who has poured his life into his next project. “We need to protect our industry environment,” she wrote while encouraging unity within Bollywood, similar to the solidarity seen in southern film industries.Coming to the work front, the duo, who earlier worked together in ‘Kaabil’ which unfortunately flopped.
