Unni Mukundan announced a PM Modi biopic, ‘Maa Vande,’ joining a trend of films on Indian leaders. Meanwhile, ‘Ajey: The Untold Story of Yogi,’ based on Yogi Adityanath’s biography, stars Anant Joshi and Paresh Rawal. Despite a delayed release and initial box office growth, ‘Ajey’ experienced a significant drop after its opening weekend, struggling to maintain its screen presence.

Actor Unni Mukundan best known for his last year’s super hit film Marco, on PM Narendra Modi’s birthday announced that he is making a biopic of the life of India’s current Prime Minister, the film has been titled Maa Vande. The film joins the long list of films in recent times which would be chronicling the lives of Indian leaders since Independence be it Akshaye Khanna and Anupam Kher’s The Accidental Prime Minister based on former PM Manmohan Singh or Thackeray on Bal Thackeray played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui or Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency on the life of Indira Gandhi or Thalaivi based on J Jayalalithaa or even Vivek Oberoi’s 2019 film PM Narendra Modi.Though no matter how popular the leader is or how much impact they’ve had on the populace but the films based on them have failed to find an audience. The latest film to join the long list of films on India’s political leaders is Ajey: The Untold Story of Yogi based on the book by Shantanu Gupta, titled The Monk Who Became Chief Minister. The book is Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath’s biography. The film stars Anant Joshi as Yogi Adityanath while veteran actor Paresh Rawal plays his mentor Mahant Adityanath. The film is directed by Ravindra Gautam who is known for famous Tv shows likes Kasauti Zindagi Kay and Bade Achhe Lagte Hai.As per Sacnilk the film collected Rs 25 lakh on day and witnessed an over 70 % spike on day 2 to collect Rs 43 lakh and on day 3 the collection stayed steady with a Rs 50 lakh collection. Taking the overall collection of the film to Rs 1.05 crore. But the film crashed by almost 69% to earn just Rs 14 lakh, thereby taking the 4 day collection of the film to Rs 1.19 crore . The film was supposed to release in August but due to its run-in with the Censor Board, the film was delayed and it finally released on 19th September. The journey ahead for the film looks like an uphill task as with each passing day it’s screen count would be reducing and as per trends it looks difficult to hold on to cinemas post it’s first week.
