Sudden sharp pain in in one hand could be a red flag for a blood clot or a blocked artery. This type of pain may feel sharp, deep or sometimes overwhelming, it usually affects one hand, and it could be a sign of critical limb ischemia, a medical condition where the blood flow in suddenly cut off. Along with intense pain, one can experience numbness or a tingling sensation, as nerves in the hand suddenly become deprived of oxygen. Though this is less common in peripheral artery disease, it can happen when the artery disease has progressed to a critical stage.
