Bade Miyan Chote Miyan premiere in London
During an interview with The Indian Express, Varun recalled being in London for his father David Dhawan’s film Bade Miyan Chote Miyan premiere, riding in a limo decorated with posters of Govinda and Amitabh Bachchan. Eager to watch Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Varun’s father jokingly threatened to leave him on the streets for insisting. Despite Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’s strong opening, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai became a bigger hit and later launched Varun’s career.
No special treatment despite family ties
Despite being the son of renowned director, Varun’s journey in Bollywood was challenging. According to a Hindustan Times report, neither Varun nor his brother Rohit received special treatment from their father. Varun shared that David Dhawan made it clear he wouldn’t launch his sons and often declined to launch other directors’ children as well. Varun had to work hard, taking acting lessons and working as an assistant director on My Name Is Khan (2010) to prepare himself for his career.The actor made his Bollywood debut in 2012 with Student of the Year, which was a big box office success. He starred alongside Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra.
