However, as per TOI report, he is likely to be recalled to both the T20I and Test squads when selectors meet later this month. The Asia Cup, scheduled in the UAE from September 9, will be played in the T20 format, while the two-Test West Indies series begins October 2 in Ahmedabad.

But when did Iyer last feature for India in these formats?In T20Is, Iyer last played in December 2023 against Australia in Bengaluru, scoring a match-winning 53 off 37 balls in a six-run victory. He has 51 T20Is to his name, amassing 1104 runs at an average of 30.66 and a strike rate of 136.12, including eight fifties.In Tests, his most recent appearance was in February 2024 against England in Visakhapatnam, where he scored 27 and 29 in a game India won by 106 runs. Across 14 Tests, he has 811 runs at 36.86 with one century and five fifties.The 30-year-old has been named in West Zone’s squad for the Duleep Trophy, starting August 28 at the BCCI Centre of Excellence. West Zone, the defending champions, will begin directly from the semifinals on September 4.Iyer’s Test absence stemmed from a back injury and poor form during last year’s England series, compounded by controversy over his reluctance to play domestic cricket. Since then, he has rebuilt his case, scoring 480 runs at 68.57 — with two centuries — for Mumbai in last season’s Ranji Trophy, and topping India’s run charts during their Champions Trophy triumph in March with 243 runs at 48.60.
