Repeated airspace incursion over Trump’s Bedminster golf club: Fighter jets intercept civilian aircraft; seven violations during weekend

Seven violations of Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFR) were reported over the weekend near Bedminster, New Jersey, where US President Donald Trump was reportedly staying at Trump National Golf Club.“Pilots: There have been seven TFR violations near Bedminster, NJ this weekend. Avoid trouble – make sure to check NOTAMs before you fly to stay clear and compliant,” said First Air Force through a post on X.Fighter jets were scrambled on Sunday to intercept a civilian aircraft that breached restricted airspace overTrump’s Bedminster retreat, reports Fox News. The aircraft entered the Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) zone around 12.50 pm ET, as per the North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD). “The civilian aircraft violated the TFR at approximately 12.50 pm Eastern Daylight Time. The civilian aircraft was safely escorted out of the area by NORAD aircraft,” reported NORAD. NORAD said its aircraft used flares to signal a civilian plane that had entered the restricted airspace, before escorting it out of the area. The incident marked the second airspace violation of the day, with another unauthorized aircraft also entering the TFR zone earlier. The flares “are employed with the highest regard for the safety of the intercepted aircraft and people on the ground,” added NORAD. “General aviation pilots are reminded to verify all Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) Notice to Airmen (NOTAMs) and Fly Informed before every flight; in the instance of the Bedminster, New Jersey region, specifically FAA NOTAMs 9839, 9840, 9841 and 9842,” NORAD said, as reported by Fox News. NORAD uses a multi-layered defense system that includes radars, satellites, and fighter jets to detect and respond to potential threats, as per DVIDS. The identification and interception of the civilian aircraft highlights how NORAD carries out its aerospace warning and control responsibilities for both the United States and Canada. In July, too, a NORAD fighter jet intercepted a civilian aircraft that entered the restricted airspace over Bedminster, New Jersey, where Trump was spending the 4th of July weekend.
