She revealed that the two were optimistic at the time, and had thought that Boseman would recover just fine after the doctors performed the surgery on his cancer. “It was going to be a challenging moment, but something that he would come out on the other side of and be fine. They would do a surgery, he would do some chemo afterward, and he would be OK. There wasn’t much talk at all of the possibility of him not being OK on the other side of that,” she shared.

The singer further provided more details about the late actor’s diagnosis, including how big of a shock it was for the couple. She revealed that the ‘Get On Up’ actor had been to the doctor a couple of times for some check-ups, and at the time, neither of them had suspected that it could have been something this serious. “It all seemed to come about very suddenly. It was a matter of weeks before he started not feeling well,” she shared during the interview. Chadwick Boseman was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2016; however, his diagnosis was not shared with the public until much later.In 2018, when Boseman revealed his iconic character as the Black Panther, he had gone into remission, and the couple had celebrated the huge win. However, by the end of the year, the cancer came back, and then progressed to stage 4. At the time, he chose to keep his struggles as private as possible and passed away on August 28, 2020, after battling cancer for 4 years.
