The release of ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ may be banned in Pakistan, but that has not stopped fans from watching the film on its release date – 19 March. As per a viral tweet, a pirated version of the Aditya Dhar directorial has made its way online in Pakistan, with eager viewers streaming the film. The development came to light after Pakistani journalist Khalid Mehmood Khalid shared a post on social media, claiming he was watching the film in Lahore. Posting a clip of his screen, he wrote, “Watching Dhurandhar 2 in Lahore.”

The clip that has been viewed over 250K times in the last few hours since the post was made, features a clip from the film and also a watermark on the top left corner.

The film’s circulation in Pakistan is notable given that the official release of both – ‘Dhurandhar’ and ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ – were banned in the country. However, industry observers note that such restrictions have often fuelled curiosity and demand, contributing to widespread piracy.This is not the first time the franchise has seen significant unauthorised viewership in the region. Reports indicate that the previous instalment became one of the most-pirated films in Pakistan, recording an estimated two million illegal downloads within just two weeks of its release.Following its digital release, ‘Dhurandhar’ reportedly climbed to the top spot on Netflix Pakistan.
Madras High Court helps curb piracy
Meanwhile, in India, the Madras High Court stepped in to help curb piracy of ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’. The court issued an interim injunction against the unauthorised streaming and broadcast of the film.
