After ‘Mulk’ and ‘Thappad’, Taapsee Pannu and filmmaker Anubhav Sinha are all set to bring their creative chemistry back to the big screen with ‘Assi’. The film, which hits theatres on February 20, has already impressed critics with its gripping narrative and strong performances. Taapsee, along with co-star Kani Kusruti, has been receiving widespread appreciation for her role. Produced under the banner of Benaras Media Works, this courtroom drama has also sealed its OTT deal, ensuring fans can soon catch it online after its theatrical run.

According to Bombay Times, ‘Assi’, starring Taapsee, Kani Kusruti, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, and Kumud Mishra, will drop on OTT platform following its theatrical release. Reports indicate that the courtroom drama will premiere on ZEE5 after its run in theatres, with April 17 being the expected streaming date. However, the film’s producers have yet to make an official announcement confirming when it will hit the OTT platform.

‘Assi’ storyline focuses on courage and justice

The film tells the story of a woman named Parima, who is attacked by five men in a car. After this painful incident, Pannu’s character, Raavi, fights a case in court to get justice for her. It’s a courtroom drama that focuses on courage and justice. Apart from the lead and supporting star cast, Seema Pahwa, Naseeruddin Shah and Supriya Pathak make special appearances in the film.

Meanwhile, in an interview with PTI, Taapsee said, “We are on the verge of becoming an extinct species, we mean films like ‘Assi’. There is a certain template that our so-called commercial cinema abides by, and we don’t conventionally fall in that template of sorts.”
